in the first picture you can see the general location of the sensor (as well as my cat, who came to investigate), follow red arrow and ive circled the alternator in blue:
the second picture shows the actual sensor circled in red and the alternator circled in blue:
the second picture is taken with my phone under the pipe coming off the airbox, in the bottom right of the picture you can see the pully on the end of the alternator.
hope this is of some help to you and your husband, you will need water in a squirty bottle (sports type lid will do) to do the water test as the sensor isnt out in the open so to speak.

Just to let you guys know, the garage (my local one) has replaced the crankshaft sensor, but still problem remains. However, whilst the engine was playing up, there was a strong smell of petrol, and after the mechanic checked it looks like one of the fuel injectors is not working! They will investigate this further, and no doubt this will be another job done on my Jimny tomorrow. Cant wait to see if this clears it.
I think the main problem is no fault code is showing up on the dash when the engine starts playing up!
If you have any comments, please let me know, thanks for your support.
