I have experienced a phantom fault with my Jimny for over six to eight weeks now. I loose exceleration, and the car looses power, and judders, and will stall when dropping down to lst gear (altho I keep it going). It hwas cost me now nearly £750 todate, having had the petrol tank cleaned, a lead to the cat replaced, and more recently a new exhaust from front to back including the cat. Unfortunately it would seem this has not cured the fault, altho the Suzuki dealer had the car over a week with a technician looking at the gasses from the cat, checking spark plugs timing, and other things, and saying he thought the cat would need replacing. This is why I have had the cat and the exhaust system changed, as exhaust was very rusty.
Has anyone experienced anything like this, and is there anything else we can check? If anyone has any ideas I would be most delighted to hear them, as Im at my wits end, and I love my Jimny, but may be forced to part with her

thread on the crankshaft sensor here .

i to suspect its this as i had similar sounding issue with mine, after employing the water test it was confirmed.........£25 crank shaft position sensor sorted it!

if it turns out to be this i would be going to suzuki to try get your money back!!!they should know better.

a duff cat will prevent the car from reving properly, i had a collapsed cat at the manifold which blocked the main cat and it just gradually got slower and slower and slower over a week or so untill it would only go 15mph and wouldnt rev at all!initially thought my clutch was on the way out untill i took the main cat off and loads of shite fell out of it ;)

Left hand side of the engine just behind the alternator.

Next time it does it cool it with some water from a bottle(the sensor) if it then runs ok you know its that.

The sensor gets heat soak and goes faulty. By the time you get the codes read its cooled down and is ok again for a short time.

probably doesnt throw up a code as james said it will soon cool and run fine, it might throw up a code if its completely failed but then i doubt youd get it started!!! had one go on a ibiza cupra and it just cut the engine out and wouldnt start, had to get recovered home :(

suzuki techs probably dont know about the water test and it only works while the fault is in progress anyway.

dont forget the main stealers will always try get as much £££££££ out of you as possible,a new exhaust system is a good little earner for them whereas a £25 sensor isnt!!

when mine was in the process of the fault the rev counter would go mental flying up and down and the EML (car with a padlock light) would flash loads! the car would run fine for hours if i stayed below about 50mph, if i exceeded this speed for a length of time the fault would start up so used to have to stop cool the sensor and away you go agen.
