50-55 round country roads in a jimjam seems a little fast tbh, mines stepped out at much slower speeds than that. It's ok doing the speed but the jimny will react a lot slower than you will, if you go into corners too hot it will turn and bite you as you found out with little chance of correct it.
They are great fun just have to except the arse end will step out and enjoy it, bit of opposite lock and bit of power

They seem pretty easy to controll when the back does come out............ IF YOUR EXPECTING IT.

When Im "rallying" it down back roads im expecting the back to step out round every corner, this way when it does (which is very rare) im ready for it ;)

As said bit of opposite lock and power should sort it, just try not to over correct it as youll be snaking down the road which can easily lead to an off!!

Gently gently on the steering when turning in no sharp jerky turns, it may be "4WD" but its no evo!!! (Obviously we all know not to be in 4wd on the road).

Jimny and Celica are designed and built to do completely different things. As are the Jimny and the Corsa really.

For a start, the Jimny's a 1328cc engine, 84bhp, and weighs about a ton, so it's no dragster. It's also rear wheel drive in 2WD mode, which has very different cornering and wet road/skid behaviour to the front wheel drive it sounds like you're used to. Which means go slowish into corners and accelerate as you come out of them and be very wary accelerating around bends, old-fashioned driving style.

It's not likely to roll over (though the long-throw soft suspension typical for off-road 4x4s can make it feel unstable till you're used to it). The back end will break away long before then or you'll understeer off the road.

Jimny's aren't fast or particularly quick, but in an age when everywhere has ever-lower speed limits, there are cameras everywhere and the roads are never empty, it's performance makes it a car that's still fun and at times a bit of a challenge to drive while staying within the speed limits. And even if you never take it off-road, 4WD is very useful in snow.

Now, I wonder how well a Celica handles driving across a wet, boggy ploughed field?

I have had 70 mph out of mine....

3.5 inch ift kit with a roof rack and the back of the car full to the brink with camping gear... Didn't dare pushing it anyfurther due to fear of the roof rack taking off with the tent attached to it!

At around 50/55 in a standard Jimny it should be doing around 3 1/2 thousand revs with plenty to come and the listed top speed is about 85 so why are you only getting 60??
Wouldn't drive it anywhere near top speed anyway. Even at 70 you are pushing it as if you have to take avoiding moves quickly you will find it doesn't like it.
Me I get in to top as soon as I can and trickle around everywhere about 50/60 which I find is the best speed for handling, noise and fuel. :)

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)
