Ive got jimnybits 2" lift on 195 80 15 saharas and had to do some triming although not loads.gearing fine, think 195 80 15 or 215 75 15 is ok anything more and they do struggle without changing the gearing.ive got a 1.6 fitted to mine and got no doubt it would manage on 215 80 15 but dont want to start braking things.

Mine is a 06 plate.
Also with those tyres on how is this going to effect ratio's?

You've got the bug mate after last weekend :)
You're already running decent 195/80 muds aren't you? - I'd stick the 2" lift on and get a transfer box guard fitted first, run it and see how you get on.

That's good advise Mick he proved how good they are with standard suspension so yeah 2 inch lift and guards would do as its also a daily driver it spends more time on the road than off it so why spoil it. Also 235's probably only add around an extra inch of clearance under the diff anyway. :)

I run 235's with a low ratio TB and a 3" lift. The front arms are CC and a bit longer than standard, I have cut the front bumper but have got away with no other trimming for ages. All changed a couple of weeks ago on a real axle twister of a lane...........I ended up eating one of my rear arches even though I have bump stop extensions fitted.......Oh well angle grinder to the rescue before my next outing!!!!

This confuses me as I thought the 235 refers to the width of the tyre so how would it affect the height? I thought the height (height of the sidewall) was the lower number ie 75-80 etc

The middle number, ie 75 or 80 or whatever, is the aspect ratio - the 'height of the tyre sidewall as a percentage of the width'.

For example a 265/75/16 (sidewall height is 75% of 265) is slightly taller than a 265/70/16 (sidewall height is 70% of 265).
