Sounds good to me Mark. Do you mean cars that you could work on that had real carburetors, a simple distributor, do a head change without having to acquire a Masters degree in advanced electronics, etc.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

I had a Fiat Uno the 1000cc FIRE engine, it was a great little car, never did less than 45mpg, no rust when I sold it.
The window winder was broken, and the window would drop down, so I made a nice piece of wood with a notch in, moved the handle so it was horizontal with the window up, and used the wood as a lock.
No sychro in second (It had done the best part of 100,000 miles round town) Oil light glowed at tickover.
The girl I bought it off had never had it serviced, when I got it the oil in the sump was like treacle, and the boot was full of trim parts that had fallen off :S
I loved that little car
My brother has had a succession of Fiats, apart from a Mk1 Panda they have been nothing but trouble mainly dodgy electrics, a 5 cylinder 2 litre thing that the engine fell out of and stopped the car because the whole of one side is supported by a big metalastc block in tension, and the metal part broke.
