Buy a welder & have a practice! Youtube & google are great for information & how too's!
Mines not great but I've been told it'll pass its mot now!
As said above the fuel tank is the biggest problem but taking this off gives you chance to waxoyl & replace any rusty fuel lines with plastic ones while your at it

Just looked on machine Mart and see the welders start at £200 or so. I really don't think I'd ever use it again though and am guessing I could probably have a bodyshop do the job for less than this.
If the price comes in more then I'd consider trying it myself, the fuel tank does make me a bit twitchy about trying it though!

Get a gas/gasless one with the gas bottles.
You will get a far neater easier weld inside the car on thin metal using a shielding gas.
The gasless is good for under the car outside when the breeze blows the shield away, and fine for chassis work, but the welds dont look good, and take more skill to produce strong ones.
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Seems too cheap. I guess they dont need to tit around with the fuel tank in your case though.
