Transfer Box Mounts (Again probably) was created by Johnniehec
Broke the drivers side (long) transfer box mount again on Sunday
, (two trials in a row) definitely have to make something stronger.
My question is if I buy/make heavy duty steel mounts for the standard Jimny (mechanical select) transfer box and fabricate plates between them around the transferbox for protection and strength will I be able to fit an SJ410 transfer box, when I find one, using the same "bucket"?
Or put it another way does a SJ box fit a Jimny using the standard transfer box mounts or are the bracket to box bolt paterns/angles different?
Cheers in advance John.

I think the mounting points are different hence the speicalists selling the h/d fitting kits
I would go for repairing the standard mounts if you can and then fitting a transfer box guard like the one on jimnybits.
When you get a rocklobster then you get the new mounts and can refit the guard
if you get a rocklobster from rockwatt then the mounting bracket comes with a shield and you could then sell your guard on here or ebay

The mounting points are different so any combined mounting hardware you fabricate/buy for a Jimny t-box will not fit an SJ t-box vehicle.
A separate guard that fits on the mounting points on the chassis rail will not have this problem as it is independant of the mounts on the transfer box itself, however if the SJ transfer box bottom sits lower than the Jimny it could foul the plate.
The Rockwatt solution has one key advantage in that it has the bucket in which the transfer box sits. This bucket bypasses some of the strain that in other systems passes through the transfer box case itself. There are some pictures around of fractured transfer box cases although it has not happened to me on my car and mine has mounts that use the transfer box case as part of the solution.

Mlines, thanks that's the answer i was after, If I do make a "bucket" for the jimny box i can always sell it if I buy or get one for a SJ box at a later date. I want to go that way rather than the separate flat skid plate (which would work with either) because I want maximum clearance underneath and the skid plate is lower all the way across than the bottom of the box.
Jimny5, First time put the front wheels too far in the air, when it landed the weight of the transfer box broke the mount. In this instance due to the laws of physics it broke in front of the bolts on the box tilted down at the front till the front prop rested on the cross member and I carried on with the trial, was just a bit "rumbly" in 4WD but fine on the way home in 2WD (auto hubs disengaged, front prop not turning). Second time, driving over large rocks, rock pushed the Transfer box up and the bracket broke behind the bolts on the box causing the box to tilt backwards and the transfer lever to be pushed back into 2H. Game over, till I tied it up with the ever adaptable rachet strap and a couple of tie wraps and carried on with the trial! This Sunday was a repeat of the "wheels in the air" problem. My fear is if I replace with a steel bracket I'll break the casing instead and so far I've only paid £20 for replacements off Fleabay which is a lot better than replacing the transfer box. My plan is to build a "bucket" similar to the "lobster bucket".
