The plot thickens, it turns out the switch wasn't plugged into anything!
Found the other end, plugged in and.... nothing. Except when you take it out of reverse!
So now i've got the reverse lights on all the time, but not when it goes into reverse!
It appears the plug only works one way, so i've unplugged for now!

Sounds like the switch might be stuck on so they just unplugged it.

Try WD-40 on the switch and press it several times to clean it. Worked on mine. If not it's around 30 quid from dealers. Try japarts.co.uk They rarely have anything in stock, but order parts and deliver quite quick.
I've used them for original Suzuki parts before and they're ok.
Chances are, the vendor you use might send you the switch for Swift gearbox which is shorter, so always make sure its the right one.
I have one spare lying somewhere in original packaging, so can get you exact part number if you need it.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Watch out when you take the switch out, there is usually a ball bearing underneath it.
