Will fitting rear freewheel hubs to my Gen 4 Jimny allow me to flat tow the vehicle was created by pierredebruyn99
According to the owners manual you cannot flat tow a Jimny. On a forum in South Africa I was told that this is because the librication of the rear hub only works under power from the Propshaft.
Are tyre fundus here that can comment on whether fitment of freewheel hubs to rear axle will fix this issue?

Welcome to the forum. The problem is that the rear axle shafts are fixed drive flange type so will not accept a free wheel hub. It is possible however to convert to a floating rear axle and members of this forum have a kit available for the gen3 but not yet for the gen4. Why are you wanting to flat tow your Jimny?

I travel widely in my converted Mercedes Sprinter Campervan and need a vehicle for business use in the cities seeing clients. Many people in South Africa tow their Gen4 Jimny's but stop every 100km to drive the vehicle and lubricate the rear diff. I want the rear wheels disconnected and therefore the flat towing problem to be solvedLambert wrote: Welcome to the forum. Its more the transfer and gearbox that need the drive to lubricate. The diff will spin and do its thing regardless of drive if the wheels are in contact with the road.
My floating rear conversion would work if used with manual hubs on all wheels, but as I've not found anyone willing to take apart and measure their gen4 rear axle shafts I can't say its suitable for the gen4 yet. I would also need Jimnybits to finish developing their gen4 disc brake conversion kit.
From trying to use manual hubs on my gen3 floating converted car I can say that you will need to expect a little extra backlash in the driveline (feels like slack). Fixed hubs are much better at this.
Currently you have two options really.
1. remove the rear prop to flat tow it.
2. use a dolly type trailer that lifts the rear wheels off the ground.

In that case I would look at a small single axle car trailer if you are going to be towing anyway a proper trailer would be safer and better for wear and tear on your Jimny.
