Hi Everyone.
My Jimny has developed an (oil ?) leak. It's visible on the inner side of the rear drum.
Seeing the photos would someone be so kind and help me diagnose what I need to replace, please? I suspect the rear axle oil seal has failed and the diff oil is dripping through the axle. Please confirm. If so is it difficult to replace? I might need a reputable mechanic 'cause my Jimny must be spot on driveable condition by the end of this month. Can you recommend one? I live in Hindley (Wigan - North West) I'm due to go to Transylvania for 4 days offroading. It's a long drive so must be addressed asap.
Thanks for reading and suggesting.

Odd question but what does it smell of? If it's kinda like cats pee then its gear oil but it looks very clean if it is. It looks more like brake fluid. Get the wheel off and the drum and have a look for drips inside. Either way whatever it is you're going to need a set of brake shoes because the existing ones will be contaminated.

Hi Lambert.
Thank you for your quick reply.
I couldn't smell anything strong smell but it feels oily.
I will remove the drum as you suggested and also will check the brake fluid container for any obvious sign of decreased fluid level.
Luckily I got a brand new set of brake shoes with fitting kit. To be on the safe side I gonna order a pair of rear axle oil seal too.
Does this leak affect wheel bearings? Do you think it's save to drive to a garage for repair or I need to sort it in my own garage before even trying to drive?
Regards, Gabor

First best to whip the wheel and drum off and ascertain the whereabouts of the source of the leak. You can peel the brake cylinder rubbers back to check for leak and if its from the axle that will be obvious. How long have you been driving with the leak? The decision to drive it is yours as I do not know how far it is to the garage or your driving style to comment otherwise.
