Chassis outrigger/body mount - advice needed

My tyres are rubbing on full lock on the chassis outrigger/body mount at the front.

What have you done to yours to overcome this, keeping the car safe and legal (ie. possible "chassis modification" issue)

Thanks, I am just aware that whilst the UK is pretty liberal on modifications compared to other countries, the one area that is a problem is any perceived modification to the chassis. Therefore looking for guidance on the proper approach - which might be bash it with a hammer :)

I have this problem as well Martin.

Ive had a bit of bash at it with a hammer, but it hasnt helped much. Suspect i will end up making a new mount up and welding in place of the bit that gets in the way currently (back half of it). Few coats of underseal and it will look like its always been that way :-)

Of course, its a problem which could probably be sorted with extended bump stops as well. Ive some sexy RW ones from Dave to try before I make a new body mount.

Have you had to bash at the back of the front arches yet (about where the throttle pedal is)? A friend referred to it as 'massaging' the arches, rather than 'bashing', which i prefer ;-)

As far as I am aware, there's nothing to stop you from replacing the mounting bracket with one of your own design, so long as it is doing the same job in the same position in much the same way as a corrosion repair. My understanding is that the chassis alteration clause is aimed at people who make significant alterations like bobtails or snub noses or streches, that kind of thing. Its like altering the engine mounting brackets to put in a v6, yes it's a change but not a significant one.

Another example is a replacement rear cross member on a defender, there are many many different ways of doing it often with a lot of the mud traps of the original designed out but they all constitute a like for like replacement because they pick up on some part of the original chassis, allow mounting of the fuel tank in a similar position and also align with the body bolts.
