Only just noticed this post as it now has some relevance. My rear chassis body mount bit snapped off so I got one from salvage off a shotgun chassis and have welded that on and am now fixing the body area so it all sits as it should. When will the issue come to light if there’s a problem with modifying/ repairing the chassis?

The most likely reason to be picked up on that would be in the event of a rtc when an insurance company may be trying to avoid liability by claiming that the repair wasn't to a suitable standard, constituted a modification, wasn't declared etc . An mot would only be interested in it being materially sound and not sharp, dangerous or affecting something it shouldn't.

In my experience unless the modification was a contributing factor in the rtc then the insurance company is unlikely to use this as a reason to avoid any claims resulting. Bending the mount or "repairing" it in such a way to avoid the tyre should not cause any issues with MOT or insurance.
As it stands the fact the tyre is hitting the mount, possibly preventing full lock, is already something that could fail an MOT or be used to avoid a rtc claim, so what have you got to lose?
Of course just my humble opinion.

Valid argument. I wouldn't trust an insurance company to that degree but it is a fair point.

I don't trust insurance companies also, nothing is clear and they like it that way.
My mate had racing tyres fitted to his motorbike, clearly printed on the tyres was "not for road use". His insurance company was not aware of this "modification".
Unfortunately he was T boned by a car turning right, not his fault, and ended up in a bad way for months. The condition of his bike was investigated by the various insurance companies and police, but because he had no time to brake before the impact, it was deemed that the illegal tyres would not have altered the outcome. The other company paid out in full, we are talking about enough cash for him to retire, so they had an incentive to find a way out of paying.
So will they or wont they pay, who knows for sure?
