Nice,
Whereabouts is it located? I have a dog guard on my jimny and plan to put my sub just behind one of the seats. The plan was to have the amp mounted on the dog guard behind the opposite seat.

ah ok.
I'm going to hold off buying anything just now until I do a bit more research. I think I have some old stereo kit from the 90's kicking around somewhere. I might see if I can dig that out, if it works I'm laughing.

The quality of that ebay kit looks dubious. Lots of stuff for your money, and I'm sure it's noisy, but that's not always best.
If you want a nice sounding system, get a pair of quality components speakers (£50 ish) for the front with remote tweeters that you can mount higher up on the dash (rather than firing the sound into your shoes). A small active sub like Daniel's (or there is plenty of room under the seats for an under-seat sub) will provide sufficient bass and take some load off the small front speakers. Don't worry about fitting rear speakers. Instead, if you want more volume consider a 2 channel amplifier to run the front speakers, which will have a lot more oomph than the tiny amplifier in the headunit itself.
Bear in mind that fewer speakers of higher quality will always produce a better sound than lots of cheap ones. I've tried all sorts of systems- stripping out entire interiors to fit dozens of speakers, amps and making up MDF boot installs, but after doing all that the I've learnt the simple systems always sound the best. In small cars I would always go for a 2.1 and concentrate on quality speakers driven by quality amps.
