Hi all,
As I enjoy my music in the car, I'm considering putting in a nice and cheap 4.1 system from ebay. I know they aren't the best quality, but I don't want to be spending a fortune on stereo kit. I measured the sub dimensions and it will probably sit nicely behind one of the seats.
4.1 amp and speaker deal
Has anyone installed this system before. I just wondered if the amps power requirements of 14.4V would be managed by the jimny alternator. If not, a capacitor might be needed to buffer the shortfall.

Hi Dan,
It's a clarity CCE203DAB. Cheap thing I got from halfords years ago. I might upgrade it. However it does pair with 4 ohm speakers and has a power output of 40W per speaker. However, I'd be hooking all the speakers up to an amp and bridging a channel for the sub.

40w will be fine for the four speakers, my system is a little different i have an amplified sub box and i power the speakers from my head unit, the sub is £89 ish from flebay but i had to cut a bit off the back, then you could probably get some pioneer speakers to replace your existing ones, turn down the base from your head unit and let the sub do its job, haven't had any problems with voltage.
saves mounting the amp and running all those wires to the speakers

did you just use a bridged amp for the sub then and no external amplification on the speakers?
I did toy with the idea of getting an under seat sub box, but thought I might as well use all the speaker space available and stick in 4.1. I'm not too clued up on stereo installations, but I'm sure it's not that difficult to do. Just a little bit of maths involved in selecting your kit I guess and like you say, the ballache of having to mount amps and run/splice wiring.

this is my sub, the amp is mounted in the top of the enclosure, RCA leads (i think) from back of head unit to the red and white connections and a lead from you battery (constant live) then there is a blue wire (normally) that switches the sub on and off when you turn your radio on
