Removing Jimny vacuum hub system? was created by Mraz
Hi!
I have a 2006 Jimny that is giving me headache. My vacuum hubs are not working so I've put them in locked position and blocked the pipes until I get manual hubs. I have blocked the vacuum pipes near the engine and sometimes it works fine with no blinking light and sometimes it drives me crazy, like today. My question is: Is it possible to remove whole vacuum hub system alltogether (solenoids and everything) and somehow make it work? It is a 2006 button style Jimny.
Greetings from snowy Croatia.

Hi there,
I've removed all the vacuum system on a lever-style Jimny and fixed the light issue this way:
www.bigjimny.com/mediawiki/index.php/4WD..._fix_for_manual_hubs
However in your model I *guess* you need the 4WD module to engage the transfer box. I don't have the wiring diagram but I *guess* (again) that you'd also have a wire coming FROM the transfer box to the 4WD module and you could bridge it with the wire going to the light. This would require more investigation - if anyone has a wiring diagram / service manual for >2005 I'd appreciate that.

Thak you.
As I understand there's a vacuum monitoring switch that checks if the sistem is working fine. I'm thinking maybe I could somehow fool or bridge this switch and make 4WD module think everything is working fine. Than I could remove all except the sensor and be done with it.
I removed the vacuum monitoring switch, cleaned the tiny filter and noticed the part where wires enter the switch is damaged, like the wires were slightli pulled from it. Maybe the switch itself is faulty, but I'm not sure how to check it. Maybe blow/suck and measure ic the circuit closes? If the switch operation is that simple than I guess theres no harm in bridging its contacts?

In the older version it wasn't that simple unfortunately. The switch (vacuum switch) you're talking about was switching just for a few seconds and then shut off - just enough to let the appropriate valve open and close after a moment. The vacuum is only needed to change hub state, not to maintain it.
So if you bridge those two you will tell the 4WD module that the valves are constantly open, and that will result in an error - indicated by the blinking light.
If I were you I'd rather check if there is a blue or blue/blk wire going from a switch on a 4wd transfer case to the 4wd module and bridge it with a module-to-light wire. So just bypass the wiring of the light-bulb, and let the 4WD module work as before. But again - I have no wiring diagram to check if my approach is correct.
... and this is the reason why I wanted a pre 2005 Jimny - less wires, less electronics = easier modding

The switch has only one vacuum tube connected and only two wires so I assumed it works as a safety check device - probably a simple switch with a membrane that closes or opens the circuit when there's enugh vacuum.

There's a Jimny Service Manual on the Internet available for pre 2005 models. the filename is 99500_81A02_01E.pdf - google & download it. Section 3D-3 explains the switches & valves (at least to some extent) and shows the behaviour of each element when you switch from 2WD to 4WD (using a lever). From that I conclude that the solution will not be that simple in case of a button-selected 4WD drive.
If only I could lay my hands on a SN415 (post 2005 Jimny) service manual...
(any PMs with hints on that would be highly appreciated)
