really loud vibration with slight judder was created by kelky7777

New to the forum so hi everyone.

This is my second Jimny, the first was a 2001

standard, 139k, and it had the same problem, vibration

but nothing like as bad as my new one. Now have a 2002

jimny on 104k, also standard, and as you can see in

the video I have really bad and loud vibration

changing through the gears. It had a new clutch fitted

before I bought it, and a new exhaust front section

and cat, also had a new gearbox mount. I've replaced

all the transmission oils, apparently the front diff

was almost empty, have checked and there are no leaks

since the fluid change.

The transmission also has a loud whine and a kind of

woo woo woo noise in all gears, from looking around

the forums regarding the vibration there are a few

comments suggesting that its normal but my last jimny

was nothing like as bad, I haven't been selecting 4wd,

don't think that's working as I get the flashing light

and with front jacked up the wheels are free spinning

even when in 4wd with engine running, I'll get around

to that problem later. So all driving has been in 2wd.

Any one know what could be causing this? My mechanic

drove the car and said he'd come across this with

transit vans and it was usually a bearing in the rear

diff, he checked the shaft linkages and said they were

fine though not sure how well he checked, I'll have a

look myself tomorrow.

I would say its in the front end, there is a problem with 4wd, fix that first, as its probably there. When the hubs get water in them they rust and every thing sticks, you could have one wheel locked and the other free.and if the drive shafts get bent then there is the vibration.

Hi John, cheers, I didn't think of that approach, I guess even if fixing the 4wd doesn't solve the vibration issue it's one job out of the way.

I have the exactly the same problem its really annoying. The only way i can deal with it is by keeping the Rpm high. :(

That's how I've been driving mine, problem is I end up driving in 2nd gear a lot. Have you tried any fixes yet?
