Just fitted Yokohama Geolander A/T S to mine. Handling is better and wet grip is
a vast improvement. :)

Check all the steering joints and the swivels for play, and the shock absorbers for function (the standard press down and release when it should just go back to where it was in one movement), but you may just find that you are holding the wheel too tight.

A Jimny has a steering box, and live axles, and tends to go where it wants, the driver's job is to guide it gently where it is supposed to be. If you start fighting every little movement, you end up snaking from left to right. There is also an element of bump steer, that gets worse if the suspension has been raised.

As to tyres, depends on what you want it for.

Japanese made bridgestones are fine, the Spanish made ones are supposed to be ditchfinders. Mine happily ran around on a mixture of the two types for years though without any problems.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I have a Jimny as my first car, and it is great, definitely the right choice! It tends to bounce around on rough roads and lean in bends, but its nothing you don't get used to. I find that coming from a normal car to a Jimny that the ride is rough, so if your used to a car it is not the same or as refined, but it is more fun!!

I fitted Yokhama Geolanders to mine, and it is better handling, especially in the wet. More grip than the Chinese ditchfinder road tyres it came with. :)

I can see how you would be worried for your daughters safety in a Jimny but I think it feels more unstable than it actually is.

I would recommend some all terrain tyres (A/T) the previous owner of mine was a young lady and the tyres had been switched to Nexen Roadian AT mud and snow with wet grip rating B, I was thinking the parents were also concerned. these were only £50 each delivered.

Safe motoring

jim
