Garnet is to good for single use and glass bead is mostly used with alloy to polish. go with copper slag from a specialist should be about £10 for a 25k bag so much cheeper . The syphon type blasters need a good 24 cfm free air flow to run. A cheep pressure pot would be much better as it could run on 14cfm with a 2.5mm nozzle at constant use. You will need at the very least sealed goggles and a viser over the top and a good dust mask but a full air fed would be much safer but then you would need a bigger compressor or another small one to supply breathing air.

As Rockwatt says, the cheap shot blasters aren't the best. With a small compressor it will be painfully slow- like trying to colour in your car with a felt tip pen. Get a pressurised shot blaster, and put down a big sheet so you can collect and re-use as much of the abrasive as possible. I put mine through a coarse sieve to take out any bits of rust. And get the biggest compressor you can find. Shotblasting uses tons of air!

Thanks guys,

I was recommended to get a 'mighty mite' to do the blasting with, but I think they are a bit out of my budget. I've had to go with the small sealey and will just have to grin and bear the colouring in of the chassis. :D On a positive, I'll have more control on the detail of what I'm doing with that (clutching at straws really). Luckily I've got a compressor that I can regulate and it goes to the maximum pressure of the sealey unit with ease, so shouldn't have any issues there.

I've got goggles, face visor and a decent particulate filtering mask, 3M one. I know I shouldn't scrimp on the safety stuff, but it's only for one use (plus I can use the mask again for spraying paint/underseal). I can't see me doing any blasting again (hopefully). I could always hire one I suppose.

2" Trailmaster suspension lift, 2"body lift, snorkel, full breather kit, 29" steel wheels with BFG tyres, tinted rear windows, CRT CB radio with modulator antenna mounted on rear, dog cage and tray in the back.

When it comes to jobs like this the best eye, ear and breathing precautions are a must. I am the worlds worst though possibly because I start thinking it will be a small quick rub down and end up grinding half the car away.

Yea, I think I'm just going to hire the air fed mask. Right tools for the right job.

It is part of the reason I never did any sandblasting - health. I would be OK doing it perhaps on smaller area jobs such as maybe wheels but sitting underneath and sandblasting above is a bit too much for me.
