Sorry, I only know of one temp sensor - where would the other be?

New fuel twice now - also, sometimes when we get it running and I can play with the throttle to get a few revs, lots of black smoke, then back to white.

OK,
Coolant temp sensor is the next thing I would be shorting and testing, or the Lambda Oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold.

not sure on your engine but mine looks like it has a 5 pin MAF sensor on the air intake from the filter box
Sensor in the middle of it is the air temp sensor
Mine is the VVT engine
Might be worth checking yours. It's got to have either a MAF or air temp sensor located on the air intake somewhere to measure incoming air temp
Fuel injection systems have to have an air temp sensor.
Just googled your engine and it looks like it's located in the top of the airbox lid. 2 wire sensor

Good day Everyone!
Well having some vacation time, I have worked tirelessly on the Jimny for the last week and here is where I am:
Tore the engine apart again, checked pistons - shaking a little in the block, but no ring wear. Rebuilt coming up - new valve seals, head gasket etc. Changed the manifold gaskets again and cleaned all of the parts associated with the intake manifold. New water temp sensor and then turned to the fuel system.
Cleaned injectors and purchased a second hand fuel pressure regulator (no new ones at dealer), replaced the metal fuel lines (both supply and return) and emptied fuel tank, cleaned out fuel pump and all pipes in the assembly. Cleaned all electrical connections and replaced all hose clamps.
Tried starting and had the same effect - will start grudgingly and idle high, but no revs. After some thought, took timing belt back off and realized that it was still the old one that I had replaced earlier this year. Bought a new one and installed - now it starts quicker and I can get some revs! Although not clean.
Best guess is that belt was stretching and once at TDC, cam might not be on its correct mark as the crank would be ahead.
Now have to go back through sensor adjustments and fine tune a bit and see where it leads.
Will advise!
