Was driving to work the other morning and it just died. It was as though it ran out of fuel even though the tank was over 1/2 full.
Towed it home and started to look over the possibilities. Diagnostic tool reported no faults in the ECU - battery is fully charged - great fuel pressure - replaced can angle sensor, throttle position switch and MAP sensor, but no change. All fuses checked good.
Engine cranks quickly, but not starting. Noticed that even though the handbrake is down, the handbrake light comes on when swinging the engine - never noticed this before!
Opened the air filter cover and sprayed a burp of starting fluid in the intake whilst cranking - started right up until the fuel burnt away. Checked the injector wiring and appears that there is no pulse coming when cranking.
Replaced the ECU - no change. What next to look for?
Lost earth to ECU?
Power to ECU?
Keyswitch power to ECU?
Immobiliser playing up. Might need a new key. My local shoe repairer/keysmith can do them for £45 as his reader can read the fob. I do not know what the dealers charge though.
Im assuming this is petrol, check the wiring harness for breaks. Also before blaming the immobiliser, i would check what the immobiliser kills, because you said it starts with fuel down the filter, Immobiliesers tend to kill spark.
a bad tip. pull spark plug caps off, wind the engine over a bit, and remove plugs,, are they wet with fuel.
