4wd sticky bind up was created by Drew1990s
Hello,

I have owned my 2008 Suzuki jimny for a year now and im aware that the wheels 'bind up' and feel a little sticky if you are in 4wdh or 4wdl. The problem I have is when the jeep is at snails pace or starting from station it gets so sticky and binds up that it sometimes stalls (as if it had the handbrake on or some of the wheels don't want to spin). It is especially bad if I am in 4wd and have the steering wheel in full lock (in either left or right position). I can remedy the situation by giving it beans and being hard on the clutch, but even then it is so sticky it often stalls! And if it doesn't stall i get a stuttering from the wheels as if they're skidding then letting go.
I don't remember the jeep being THIS sticky when I first got it and have just changed both my differential fluids and transfer box fluids myself today (and all oils didn't look too bad at all). I have also tried the same mentioned maneuvers on loose ground off road and it's the same deal.
Is it meant to be like this or could I have a problem, I just don't remember it binding up as much as this.
The jeep has worked hard (I do A LOT of miles for work and attend off road events)-however I have looked after her meticulously and service her every year. As mentioned it is 2008 with 48000 miles on clock.

Thanks
All helpfull input much appreciated

What surface are you driving the Jimny on wen this happens?

Thanks for reply

At first it was dry Tarmac, however after a google I decided to use it on really wet large-ish stone pebbles and a field. The same scenario happend

Stop using 4wd on such high grip surfaces and the problem will cease.

You are just winding up your transmission and will eventually damage it.

You only need 4wd when it's really quite slippy.

It also happens in rough off road terrain?? Mud, wet grass etc

Also I was wondering it's been VERY heavy rain where I live and the roads are flooded, would it be ok to use the 4wd at 60mph or 70mph (and above)?

Does it happen when still off road or only when back on the road? I wonder if it's not coming out of 4WD?

Is it stick change transfer box or push button change?

As to the speed part - No. If the road is slippery enough to need 4WD, why will you be going at that speed?

Why would you want to go through flood water at that speed?

Floods don't necessarily stop your tyres gripping enough to cause wind up?
