@ helijohn
i tried that and it's not, i had a look at the shock bushings and they look fine, and i checked the shock upper mounts and they look fine as well. i do have some looseness in the steering that i'm preety sure is a steering bar end that needs replacing. i'm gonna drop the car of at the shop today to try and get it sorted. sometimes while driving slowly, at a certain point in the steering input on tight turns it feels light, as if one of the wheels is is off the ground or lost traction. and if i exit a roundabout fast, when turning right and with the weight shift, it's almost as if the car wants to spin on it's center, like a bumper car or a reliant robin, but it's not the rear that's slipping..almost as if the front end rests on a large sphere and not 2 contact points.
when coming into a lane out of a parking lot, during that 90 dgree turn, the left front tyre (we drive on the other side of the road) squeels, as if it's trying to catch up with the rigth's steering angle.
@ rayz_x
that is acctually a very good sugestion. you might be onto something.
when driving along i notice that the front looks like it jumps a lot, like, there's a lot of vertical vibration on the front of the hood. my previous jimny didn't do that, and i atributed it to the fact that this one being a petrol one has a lot less wheight on the front than the diesel one. so i guessed it was probably just normal to do that.
the previous owner also had the windshield replaced and i noticed that the screw closest to the windshield on the upper part of the left front wing is missing. as soon as i get off work i'm gonna take your sugestion and check the bump stops.
anyway, hope to have some news sometime next week

Check brake discs are firmly attached as they can give bad vibes.

well, after a week in the shop (my mechanic has a daytime job), finally have some news.
the good news is that the annoying metal noise is just the heatshield near the cat.
the bad news is that after replacing the u-joints and trying to put the propshaft back into place, the alignement was off.
turns out that the rear prop is slightly bent, so it needs rebalancing. when there was play in the u-joints it was "fine", but now that there is no slack, it wont go on straight.
whenever i was driving along and took the foot off the gas and let the car slow down in gear, it made this reverberating sound.. i assumed it was also due to the u-joints, but turns out it's a bit off.
so that's that. just hope it's not so bad that it wont be able to be rebalanced and i'll need to get a new one...at least it's not the most expensive thing in the world, but it's gonna mess a bit with my vacation plans.
has anyone ever had to deal with this kind of issue?

well, car is back from the shop.
the annoyng metalic noise is gone. it was the cat's heat shield that was loose.
the wayward steering is gone too, tie rod ends replaced.
as for a clonking sound and reverbaration, it was due to a damaged ujoint mount on the rear end of the rear prop shaft.
that unfortunately is not totally sorted.
for the first few miles it was ok, but 30 miles in and the clonk is back, as well as the reverbaration around 2000rpm in fourth with the foot off the gas.
has it rebalanced but it seems the balancing is not the issue.
in any case, that will have to sufice for now, but i'm probablly going to get me a hd prop from zanfi to try and sort it out. before i do though, i'm gonna try to replace the ujoint mount on the rear diff side and see if that helps. does anyone know where i can get one of those?
