My one started sticking. I just sprayed it with a heap of WD40, opened and closed it a few times and it has been fine ever since.
Oh, I did the same for the hinges, then pushed some waterproof grease in there and wiped off the excess. Brand new.

Hi, are you sure it's the strut. I thought that on my last jimny but traced the problem to the lower door hinge being stiff due to the crud it seems to attract. A good dose of WD40 cured it . When i got my current jimny the lower hinge had the same problem. Hope this helps

Errrrr that's caught me off guard ! I never considered the problem might be the hinges but just presumed it was the strut that was faulty. Time to get the lube out i think. Thanks guys

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Seconded what Womble said.
On mine it is the lower hinge that seized too. Quite difficult to get lube in there.
One of my bonnet hinges seized as well, and the bonnet started to bend and the hinge mounting distort. Had to get all the plastic scuttle off to sort that.

Got any hints as to how to get lube in there? So many fourbies have these hinges and it's be great to have a hinge lube tool.
