Back door gas strut was created by HARRY.B
Apologies if this has been dealt with before but could someone tell me how to remove the back door gas strut / damper ? The end attached to the door is easy enough as it's mounted on a pin and secured with a nut, but i cannot for the life of me see how the strut is held in place on the ball socket end. There is no retaining clip as is usually the case on gas struts and i 'm unable to see any other retaining pin/lock/device. It won't come off with gentle pressure and i didn't want to try forcing it. Any tips ???

That would still leave the 'ball' mounting stuck in the end of the strut. There must be a way of disconnecting the two apart.

Used to have something like this on boot lids and I think the strut could be popped off. Not 100% sure though.

Yeah, im taking it off as im sure it's seizing up, so i need to keep the 'ball' mounting to attach a new after market one. I would have got rid and done without but i can't see a door strap so it could prove expensive if a high wind blew the door right round and wrecked the hinges !
