2" Suspension lift + 2" Body lift

One of the things that Jimnys get stuck on are the radius arm mounts, which are also susceptible to damage - hence guards are sold for them.

I would either decide that a 2" lift is all that is needed or spend the money and get a 3" lift and castor correction arms to go with it. I would not try to make a up more lift through a body lift.

Of course you will be able to fit bigger tyres on with a body lift, which will in turn lift the chassis up but not as much as bigger tyres and that little bit more of a lift. Believe me, from experience, it makes a difference.

I wouldn't go too mad and do a 3" lift and a body lift though. The centre of gravity is high enough on a 3" lift. People do it and are happy but I think it's one step too far.

Just decide what you want from the outset or you'll waste money buying things twice over.

Yes, the body lift's only purpose does seem to be to allow for bigger tyres. I think I'd be better off investing in a bit more suspension, more bang for your buck. However, the equipment needed for a 3" lift might take me a bit out of budget having to buy castor corrected arms, bushes, steering spacers, panhards and bushes etc. A 2" lift would probably be fine for my use, some green lanes now and again.

Couple more questions for you.

Would a 2" lift be fine without new panhard rods or steering spacers, or would not fitting these negatively affect handling characteristics?

With regards to rubbing against the cowling, what would be a suitable size of tyre on a 2" lift only, stock 205/70, 215/70 or 215/75.

But most importantly, how would an insurance company view a 2007 Jimny with a 2" lift?

in which case I'd say you're making the right call re sticking with a 2 inch suspension lift and adding a 2 inch body lift for extra clearance to stick bigger tyres on either permanently or as required.

everyone telling you to go 3 inch is probably an offroader with other road cars, above 2 inch the jimny suffers on-road.

edit: good advice given to me was to spray existing brake line couplings, body lift mounts, shock bolts etc with wd40 or similar, spary a couple of times a week a few weeks before you do the job.

Yes, my Jimny does get used on the road plenty, the majority of the time. I do have other transport, but unfortunately the weekly shop spoils my streamline posture on the R6.

I think that's the road I'll go down. Stick with 2" lift and I may put a body lift on it later. Will see how the wheels look when they are on.

I have now invested in some penetrating fluids off flea-bay for that purpose.

All you need is castor corrected bushes but some people don't fit these I think in the odd instance some people have had to fit extended brake hoses as they seem to be shorter than other people's brake lines and you have to keep your anti roll bar.... Some wil probably correct me but this is what I have learnt so far from the forum as im no mechanic either :woohoo:

A 3" lift is fine on the road if castor corrected. It is no different to a 2" lift to drive I shouldn't think.

Just stay away from the body lift is all I say. Either stick with 2", which sounds about right for the size of tyres you are thinking of or go 3". Forget the body lift bit.

Spending a couple of hundred more than I wanted to, but it's worth it in the end.

Get a 2" Trail Master suspension lift. Either sport or comfort. You wont regret it. One of the best Suspension kits around for the Jimny.
