Would a faulty gearbox mount cause stiff gear changes?
As above please gents- when I had my clutch changed the mechanic mentioned the gearbox mount was worn. I've noticed recently sometimes I have nice smooth gear changes whereas other times it's stiff and unpleasant.
First and reverse can also be hard to select and I get the groan on pull away which is apparently indicative of a worn mount.
I found my mounting apart when I removed the gearbox recently. I had only driven the car 9 miles or so from where I purchased it and the gear changes were normal. It could cause problems I guess but it is worth checking. If you can lift the rear of the box up until it hits the tunnel then more than likely it has gone.
