A stuck EGR valve should put the EML on, as the engine tests it at idle by tweaking it and seeing if the revs change, but worth cleaning it anyway.

A dodgy crank sensor usually doesn't put the EML on, you would expect it to, but plenty of people say it doesn't.

The crank sensor is under the alternator, and is much more likely to fail than the cam sensor, as 1) it is more expensive, and 2) harder to change ;)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

interesting, so it only checks at idle,

and at idle it looks OK, else the engine would be stumbling and may even stall

however, If the EGR is on during acceleration, low power (from reduced air/fuel volume) could be giving these issues

Facade know so much more about stuff than me so follow his advice and try the crank sensor first

good luck, keep us posted

No it checks the electrical circuit at key on and also checks the function during deceleration when it flicks it on again very briefly and checks for a change in manifold pressure.
The crank sensor is much more likely but its always worth cleaning the EGR and its passageways because a reduction in EGR flow will reduce part throttle efficiency because it will reduce the effective compression ratio.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

I just had a simillar problem with my Jimny which was fixed today. I took the car to my friend who is a mechanic. Like you, he found no fault codes. He did some digging on the car and found a wire on the wiring loom had become damaged and was shorting out, basicly causing the car to run on 2 cylinders.

He seemed to think that as the jimny only has a crank sensor an not a cam sensor to fall back on, the engine simply wouldn't run if that was the issue?

Ali.

My post looked pretty bad after you said it did not fix the problem.

I seriously meant it is a fantastic site!
