Ok, got started today.
Went through re test and passed on lambda emissions ( praise the lord!) then home to take it all to bits.Engine flush and oil dropped, rad out fan off, exhaust manifold off, rocker cover off.
Daughter dragged me out with dogs to beach.
Everything going too easy, it's suspicious. It's quiet....... too quiet.
Back to it on monday.
Ta for the help so far, please standby for emergency assistance!

Whilst the head is still on and the rad off flush the coolant system in both directions remembering to have the heater set to hot. Then give the rad a good two way flush and the matrix a good blow through.
Out of interest, why are you taking the head off if the engine is working ok enough to pass the emissions?

I boiled it up due to a duff thermostat, which caused a coolant pipe to split and I think caused a head gasket leak, not to mention bits of the burst pipe rubber floating about in the coolant.
Replaced thermostat but result has been coolant presurising, kicking water out through the expansion tank.
Drivable but have to watch temp closely and stop every 15 miles or so to let it cool and top up with water.
Thankfully no oil/water mix but you can hear the gas bubbling out into expansion tank when I stop.

Might be the pressure cap. You can do a sniff test to check if the gasket has gone.
