Thanks for the input!

Not a lot of suppliers of springs can give much info on their springs.

Only Old Man Emu, Trail Master, King springs and as far as I remember Terrain Tamer could give me the info I needed about spring rates.

That's for sure...though in the states there is:

Moog
Eibach
ProComp
and some others...

A little bit more flexibility as far as springs choices...

Mostly just building my information database for making up my own suspension.

You guys are definitely solid gold help in that regard!

True that.
The brands I listed all have Jimny springs in their catalogue. The ones you mention don't. Which means a bit work is needed.

What are your plans for the suspension?
I've just installed Trail Master springs on my jimny. A major improvement over the 4" ORA springs because of the weight on the front axle :)

TomDK,

While I'd love to say I have a "plan" at this point, I am mostly just spit-balling it...:)

I "would like" 4+" of springs and adjustable radius arms. I think the 120 lb spring rate for the coils is a bit light for the vehicle. I'd like to have it at about 150-175 for the fronts and around 150 in the rear.

What i have laid out currently is as follows:

Moog CC 263s in the front:
I.D. of 3.86", .54" diameter coil wire, 14.5" free length with a 164 lb/in spring rate. This would put it around 2mm taller than OME/ARB +40mm springs with a touch firmer spring rate. My concern with this is the spring ends. Looking at the pictures, and finally ponying up and pulling my passenger rear today, it seems the stockers are tapered in at the top. The Moog springs are matched top and bottom.

I am toying with the idea of matching fronts and rear coils, obviously correcting for the 20mm rear difference in Japanese model passenger side with a spacer. My concern is leveling the little guy out. The springs are relatively inexpensive at $35 USD each with free shipping...So i might just go that way for grins...

Currently I am waiting on extended brake lines and then some fabrication work to be completed on some custom radius arms.

Again, I am pretty much just messing around at this point. As usual I will probably spend too much money and time and end up going with a kit but this is the fun part...right?

Again, thank you for your inputs, they have been most helpful.

Sounds much to me like you should take a look at the Trail Master springs. They're tailored to the Jimny, and with higher spring rate front than rear.

The ones I have are what they wall a 3" lift.

The spring rate below are all for front springs. The 76043 is a 2" lift for petrol engine. 76053 is 2" lift for diesel engine. The 76086 is 3" lift non-specific. All springs have rear springs that match.

As you can see the spring lengths and rate differs which is also why you should not worry all too much about how much lift the give. More how they are compared to standard Jimny springs.

Spring number: 76086
Free length 368 mm
Number of turns: 10
Spring rate: 40 N/mm
Bar diameter: 13 mm

Spring number: 76053
Free length 353 mm
Number of turns: 11
Spring rate: 36 N/mm
Bar diameter: 13 mm

Spring number: 76043
Free length: 368 mm
Number of turns: 11,4
Spring rate: 26 N/mm
Bar diameter: 12 mm

These springs are fairly hard, and don't very well match a standard Jimny. But as I use my Jimny for Winch challenge and carry a good deal of equipment plus heavy front bumper and twin motor winch the frontend is very heavy, hence the hard front springs :)

Regarding the Moog springs. Remember to add UK VAT, customs fee and what not. And don't expect them to ship free of charge. They probably do it in the US. But they probably don't ship overseas for free.

I can only recommend you get in touch with Trail Master in Germany. They're very helpful and shipping is only a couple of days.
