Auto lockers and gear change was created by Toma
Just picked my Jimny up a few weeks ago and got a couple of issues that I hope you guys in the know might shed some light on!!
Firstly the auto locking front hubs. The car sometimes makes an awful noise like trying to change gears without using the clutch while driving along. The noise goes away on its own after a few seconds with a loud clunk or by dipping the clutch selecting 4WD and then back to 2WD. Anyway I think I've narrowed it down to the front hubs, if I jack just the front drivers wheel up and spin the wheel while out of gear and engine off in 2WD I can see the front prop turning. If I start the engine I hear the clunk from the hub and spin the wheel the front prop doesn't turn but after two revs I hear a clunk and then the prop starts turning. It's like the hubs are engaging when they shouldn't. I've stripped the auto lockers down and the collars click in and out as I presume they should, but I've never owned a 4WD before so don't really have a clue!!
Second the gearbox is rather stiff to change gear, not driven another Jimny so don't really know what it should feel like. Plan to change the gearbox oil when I have a spare hour.
Anyway would love to hear your opinions on the above.
Cheers

Maybe someone had piped the vac hubs the wrong way round so it's engaged when it shouldn't be? Stick it in 4wd with the engine running, jack the side that you suspect up and see if the hub is engaged? If not, pot it in 2wd if it is now then it's piped wrong. Worth a try

Good idea about maybe the vac hoses are the wrong way round.
Not driving in 4WD on the road, but might have a least one hub locking in!!

I am also not happy with my gear changes. It's the first jimny I've had but I've owned more than a dozen cars. Some were autos, but the jimny is the least satisfying of the lot. I tried changing the gbox oil it had a little improvement, but a lot left to be desired. I had a KIA Rio 1st gen and it puts the jimny to shame where gear changes are concerned.i bought my jimny with about 123000km on the clock. BTW my other car is a GVitara auto.

Could be a broken mount or the clutch is not disengaging properly, there is adjustment on the cable
