Jimny Clutch Problems was created by BensJimny
Hi there everybody, im new to BigJimny and as my first car i have a 2005 Jimny o2 soft top, great little car!
well my problems began today,on my second drive in it i noticed the clutch pedal getting very stiff, i had to almost stamp on the pedal to get it down and use great force in changing gears.
Also the big problem, the clutch has no power to pull me anymore, in previous cars i rolled on the clutch when in traffic or pulling away before adding gas, but today that seemed near impossible, i had to keep adding vast amounts of gas simply to move, even well into the biting point it wouldn't shift (half the time i thought i wasn't in gear or had the handbrake on but no) therefore i had to rev greatly to move away, maneuvering became near impossible as it wont move at slow speeds resulting in a lot of stalling.
Im not to sure what jimnys are like with the power put out by the engine in order to roll on the clutch, but im sure there's a problem here, its become a pain to drive, id just like my smooth gear changes and softer clutch pedal back? Any suggestions?
Many Thanks Ben

something def worng with the clutch. might be on it's way out...or gone.
I'm standard on 215/75/r15. And can still simply roll just letting off the clutch. If you have to slip it(add lots of gas while still on the clutch. Could be that it's near out.
Get more opinions thats just my 0.02.

Reading online i was thinking that, but i wasnt sure due to the low mileage, im looking online for a new clutch, i heard that heavy duty clutches allow the car to pull more without adding gas? am i right? and what would the cost of a new clutch replacement? Many thanks for the reply Benjamin

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

A heavy duty clutch just gives a more positive lock-up and drive, usually because of stronger springs, so you get more pedal effort.
You don't need one unless you are towing or doing a lot of offroading.
You may find that your problem is the cable has seized/broken, a new one is quite expensive though, but it isn't much trouble to get underneath, flip the plastic box off the gearbox end of the cable and see how easy it is to move the clutch arm by hand. It may be that the clutch arm has seized in its pivots because of rust/mud inside the clutch housing.
As to the stalling, they are prone to this if you try to pull away at tick-over, they need a few revs 1200-1500 to get going.

im also having problems with my clutch pedal. its harder to step on the clutch than any other cars i have driven. i was adviced to try to lube the clutch cable first. if it gets better, then have the cable replaced. is this correct?

I dont know about cars but one of our tractors came to the point when you had to jump on it to push the clutch pedal in, mechanic just sprayed some CRC (WD40) down the clutch cable line and it freed it up to feel like new.
