The most likely cause is as Mark said at the beginning, a blocked catalyst from short journeys. ;)

Mine cruises happily at 3500rpm, it will go a fair bit faster, but I swear I can see the fuel gauge going down above 3500.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

it was Catalytic converter blockage
went to another mechanic he opened the Catalys cleaned welded back again, he also changed spark plugs, oil and oil filter and gear box oil
70euros for the hands
56euros for the oils sparks and filter

NOW It runs like a rocket :)

google search it, some videos on youtube using a bucket of soapy water :whistle: .

In The Olden Days, when I had 2-stroke 'bikes, I used to take the exhaust off, jam a potato on the end and fill it with caustic soda solution to remove the oily crud. Maybe the same sort of thing will work?

A new one isn't very expensive though
