SOHC engine belt change frequency and cost?

Hi all

I did search, but couldn't find anything.

With the SOHC engine, how often (mileage / time) should the cam belt be changed? Is this an easy(ish) DIY job, or a right pain without proper equipment? What sort of amount would it cost to get this done at a garage? Also, a full service?

I'm looking at a SOHC Jimny to possibly buy, but it hasn't had a cam belt change since 2007 and it's due a service so I'm wondering roughly how much to budget... (I'd do the service myself if at all possible, but just wondering what it would be likely to cost at a garage...)

If in any doubt - i would change it ...

Normally it's every 50-60,000 miles - but it was the first thing i did when i bought my Jimny.

It's a relatively simple job to do yourself - just remember NOT TO MOVE engine or car with it in-gear whilst cam belt is off!!

for what it costs for a belt kit its worth doing & also worth changing water pump while you got the belt off

The cam belt dont run the water pump if its not leaking or over heating leave it

Up to 08/99 every 60000 miles or 5 years

After 09/99 every 54000 miles or 6 years

Book time is 2 hours

So knocking maybe £100 - £200 off the price to allow for belt change and service should be about fair...?

I never said it did run the pump but the thing is you have to remove the cam belt to replace the pump so in my opinion its worth replaceing while the belt is off as they are not expensive but each to there own I suppose
