Broken it... crankshaft pulley was created by SPC5838
On the motorway this morning, the Jimny decided to break for the first time in 2 years, something along the lines of BANG :woohoo: what the **** was that  battery warning light on, no power steering and getting hot very quickly... Turns out the crankshaft pulley had decided to split in two and pulled both the belts off
The new one, all £140 quid of it :S Looks the same as the one that came off, so presumably it's 2 bits joined together as well.
Just in case anyone needs the part number... great fun changing this in a car park. Bolt holding it on was rock solid, only way to loosen it with tools available ( don't try this at home ) was jam a 1/2" drive 18" bar under the left hand chassis rail with a 17mm socket on the bolt and turn the key... que second bang of the day and one loose crankshaft bolt  Worked, but not recommended ! Another Jimny owner decided to come have a chat about them when he saw me working on it... what other modern car does that happen with
Apologies if this has been posted before, but has anyone else had the pulley fail like this ? It's got 35k on the clock and if the new one is made the same way as the one that split, it seems there's a chance it could happen again :S

It's the one mentioned in the service recall:
Recall Details
Concern: LOSS OF STEERING ASSISTANCE.
Description: Steering assistance may be lost because the the power steering tensioner pulley material is not to specification. The pulley may fail and cause a loss of drive to the hydraulic pump.
Remedial Action: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affect to inspect and where necessary replace the power steering tensioner pulley.
Vehicle Id: JSAJTA74V00100056 to JSAJTA74V00200237, JSAFJB43V00300011 to JSAFJB43V00213672, JSAJTD94V00101295 to JSAJTD94V00101296, JSAHTX92V00209650 to JSAHTX92V00209812.
Numbers Involved: 5424
Recall article is here .
Part codes:
49160-64J01, PULLEY, BELT TENSION
17521-84H00, BELT (4PK850)
49111-81A40, .PULLEY (seems to be different than the one posted above by SPC5838 though).

Sorry folks, looks like I was given duff info about what the issue was with the recall  VAXXi's correct, the recall was for the PAS pulley, not the crankshaft pulley as I was told
The garage that it went to to for the recall isn't a Suzuki franchise anymore ( they're no longer trading
) so guessing that minor detail didn't matter much to them ! Post amended to save confusion... Also explains the difference in part number
Anyway, it wasn't the PAS pulley that broke up. It was the main crank pulley for the alternator, PAS belt and fan. I don't have a picture Renard but the arrow points to it, part 2 in VAXXi's diagram.
According to the dealer I got the new one from they've sold "quite a few" and although they don't think it's a weakness in the same way as the kingpins, it was obvious this wasn't the first one they'd seen that the pulley had broken up on. Worrying thing is there was nothing leading up to it failing -no rattle, belt noise, battery light flickering, nothing. Just bang and that was it. The bonding between the 2 parts ( looks like thick 3M tape, the 2 bits aren't even resistance fit ) failed totally and left one half attached to the crankshaft, the other half wedged in the back of the fan and the belts tied in knots

Very unfortunate
quite a shame to have it so poorly engineered, and 1/2 bolts between the two plates seems to be out of the question, as it would be probably very hard to balance it properly.
