I have driven a car with Toyo R1 tyres and they were very good. Spent a lot of years on Yokohama's A008 and think that's a great tyre.

I wil probably do the same and get 16" Vit wheels with tarmac tyres at some point, I'm interested in how you get on with the wider tyres. I was thinking of going back to 205's.

Going to low profile road tyres should negate any weight gain from the wheel size...

A friend with a puma claims that he wore a pair of the toyo r1 out in 6 months? I suspect some hyperbole in that but looking on camskill they are very sensible money so maybe that's not the end of the world.
