Greetings,
I intend to purchase a brand new jimny, I read on the net that there will be new 2017 with 130+hp. Where current offers only around 80+.
Any idea? Is this a rumor? Nothing mentioned about the new engine they say it's 1.3, makes me wonder where the extra ponies will come from (turbo? Doubt it).

There are a lot of rumours but Suzuki haven't released any information so far.

Beware that the next generation Jimny, when it finally gets released, might not (and probably will not) be mechanically similar to the current one.

I imagine they'll try to "modernise" it in line with just about every other car on sale right now which certainly isn't a bad thing, I just hope they don't "soften" it too much or make it too "luxury" because there really is no alternative for a small, rugged, capable 4x4 unless you fancy spending twice the money on a Shogun

My own feeling is that it will not be too much different than the current, which may actually see it withdrawn from some markets altogether as it becomes harder to keep it within the construction regulations.
The major event for the Jimny in 2017 is the move of all global production to India. This is a major market for it, particularly for Government and military use. I predict we will see LWB (4 door and crew-cab) versions and perhaps a hi-top, all for utility service and all in India. But for current markets this move to low cost and utility will see a further reduction in sales as any "fancy" parts would be bolt on items on the basic build that do not create a vehicle that is enticing to the current markets. I realise that an increasing number of vehicles are being built in India but most of these are for the home market or regional market perhaps with the exception of the Hyundai i10

So no more "made in Japan" Jimnys in 2017 and on?
I wonder if the move of production location would affect build quality. There are still rumors that Spanish built Jimnys (by Santana) did not have the same build quality like the Japanese built Jimnys. Have those rumors ever had justifications?
