Clutch change M13a engine

Now is the time to replace the clutch cable whilst I have the engine out. But how do you gat at the pedal end? Does the pivot bolt have to be removed?
I have supplied photos of the rot I am repairing whist the work is done. The drivers side is directly behind the steering box and the pax side is in the same place.
I have also found the rear engine/gearbox mount delaminated and the heater hose that connects to the back of the head where the temp sensor sits going soft so that is being replaced as it would be a pain to do with the engine in. £15.30 from the dealers by the way.

According to the disc MM you just reach in and lift the clutch cable off the clutch lever! Great if you are a contortionist and could actually see it!

It's not easy but many other cars are much worse. Having the chassis on axle stands and letting the front axle hang unsupported helps with access to lots of the bolts.

Clutch cable is easy, a genuine 15 minute job! Remove gearbox end: slacken adjuster, remove plastic cover and lift cable end from clutch arm. Now there is some slack in the cable reach up to the top of the clutch pedal and lift the cable end out of it's slot. Then just pull it out from the engine bay.

Its the "reach up to the top of the clutch pedal" bit that is difficult for me. I am 68 and arthritic and bending these old bones is not easy!

So I tried pushing the inner wire cable from the clutch end and the pedal end fork disconnected itself. Problem is now that I cannot pull the whole cable out of the bulkhead no matter how hard I tug.. So does the outer part of the cable mount in a bracket behind the pedal and if so is it held there or just a push fit?
