If i was buying a pre-built Jimny, I would have to basically totally disassemble it and put it all back together again to make sure each component was sound ...

I echo this and 11/60's comments.

When I bought mine from KAP Suzuki I thought everything was great. It had no castor correction on a 3" lift but no-one did castor correction back in those days!

Then at Slindon the chassis end panhard rod bolt dropped out. Closer inspection showed that the thread on the captive nut in the spring seat was stripped so someone had tightened it to the point of it spinning and put a couple of tacks of weld to prevent it undoing! Well those tacks broke!

Then I found that the Goodridge extended brake hoses aren't that long and the front off side has the wrong fitting, so someone changed the fitting on the car to fit and now hoses from anywhere else don't fit!

These are just two of the bodges from the previous owners I have had to correct. Starting with a standard car prevents the chances of this stuff being as high.

The other side of the argument though is cost. The cage on that Jimny is the thick end of a grand to have done by Off Road Armoury or Rhino Ray. The Snorkel about £100, the suspension lift without castor correction a good few hundred pounds for a cheap kit and the tyres £500! I've not looked at the ad properly to see its spec but just from the photo above I can see all that money in it without the price of the base car!

So it's swings and roundabouts but I think I would start from scratch if you can afford it or buy modified if you have the skills and knowledge to correct issues! You'll learn skills by building from scratch but fixing issues can be a whole new level of grief!
