Receiver hitch was created by Lambert
Hi, my towbar is the detachable type with the machined round swanneck and locking pin arrangement.
Is there a proper traditional square 2" receiver type available with the full type approval needed for m1 class cars?
Reason being I want to make a custom rear carrying rack for the 6 foot hurdles we use so that I can easily transport say half a dozen to and from a field or whatever as needed but with a full range of repeater and marker lights and number plate etc. I could get another neck like the existing one but it needs to be rotated 180 degrees to lock in place which wouldn't work with the frame I need, where as one that just slides in and is locked would. It would also open up a variety of other attachments like a multi height ball attachment and a manly rear shackle point as such things are widely available for jeeps and land rovers so will be way strong in a jimny application.

So can one buy a type approval ready 2" receiver type tow bar for a jimny?

Nothing available in the UK to my knowledge. Which is a shame as they are very useful!

Sounds like you want a Heyman Reece Hitch like that fitted to my Jimny.

In Oz, you can get all sorts of extras for them, including a little safe box that fits inside the hitch

Even a Winch carry cradle which can be mounted front or rear, very handy

... and an adjustable sway/level rider kit

You need to state which country you are asking about.

If its UK then the receiver style hitches used elsewhere in the world are not type approved. you can use them for your own off-road purposes but you cannot tow on road with them.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThat's why I like the standard flange type towbar as you can bolt all sorts to them.
I had a detachable swan neck on my Swift and it was useless for anything other than towing a trailer.

Possibly you could use a cycle rack bracket like this as a base and bolt on a custom rack??

How heavy are the hurdles?? It won't matter in a field but you might have a "legal" problem on the road and they will stick out quite far each side of a Jimny.
Easiest option would be to get a used flange towbar and swap it over and you can sell on your detachable one.
The towbar itself doesn't take long to fit especially as you already have the electrics fitted.

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)
