Reactalite don't go dark enough in the car, as they need UV to react to, and the glass windscreen stops most of the UV.

You need a fixed tint.

When the low sun reflects off a flat surface like a wet road, the reflected light is horizontally polarised, the sunglasses are vertically polarised and block this, reducing the glare.

The latest reactalite have a version that will actually work inside a car, but can only be fitted to single vision lenses, so I had to have the standard version

That's worth knowing when I get new glasses next year :)

Halford was complaining about the low Winter Sun. This causes two problems:

1) it shines straight in your eyes. Always when there is a dangerous manoeuvre to perform (pulling out of a junction, overtaking a parked lorry etc.) . Sunglasses, or indeed a tinted visor will reduce this (if you look through the visor)

2) it reflects off wet roads, your flat bonnet etc. causing glare. Polarised glasses reduce, or eliminate this, because they block the reflected light waves.

I tried those eBay flip up clip on polarised glasses, and they work, but the plastic hinge breaks, proper Polaroid ones are north of £20, so I got some prescription polarised sunglasses, which work well.

I suppose I need some night driving glasses now, with a yellow tint, and polarised lenses, but I still have a pair of yellow flip-up ones that aren't broken.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Whereas I used to have to drop the sun visor in winter sun conditions, with the strip in place there is no need. I find a peaked cap is another serious aid and naturally sunspecs especially if the road is wet. Also a raised seat helps; being up in the roof makes such a difference.

The sort I used was not so film-like. I'll search ebay and see. ;)
