jimny, good or bad !!!! was created by philpridd
gearbox faults, crankshaft pulley failures, most of whucg seem to be at low mileages,so why do people cite the Jimnys reliability?Having recently bought a 2008 vvt with only 30,000 miles, after approx. 1 month, the crankshaft pulley came apart,£ 165 for a new one, fairly straightforward to fit, now the gearbox seems to be getting noisy, at the risk of upsetting everone,it seems to me to be more liability then reliability, and I am rapidly losing confidence both in the car,and those owners who say how good it is,all I can say is they must have had some really, really bad cars,I am sorry I ever bought it,but for now am stuck with it,but would never, ever buy another, most cars I have had have done over 90,000 miles, and not needed crankshaft pulleys or gearboxes.Ita a pity,as I really like thecar, but with its track record for problems,or at least the later ones, seems like I am best getting rid,as soon as I can find someone to buy it,sorry to upset you all,but that's how I feel.

all I can say is my 2007 Jimny 50K+ miles, no probs, only exhaust back box and rear pipe, king pins and tyres replaced on those 8 years.

was yours a private or garage purchase ? what history ?

It's more a case of "Nothing is as good as in The Olden Days" ;)

My 2000 twin cam has done 140,000 miles by my reckoning (quite a few miles seemed to have "got lost" when I searched the MOT history), the engine is fine, the gearbox is a little whirry though: needs a bearing kit when I do the clutch.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

thanks for the sympathy, car seemed like a bargain,as the price had been reduced by £300 due to lack of interest shown by buyers,no service history, and because of the price reduction,no warrantyI do like the car,but it does nothing to ispire confidence, when the majority of such problems seem to occur around the 20, 0r 30,000 mile mark, hardly a big mileage, anyway, just have to stick with it and see how it goes.

and its not a case of nothing as good as the good old days, its a case of modern cars being crap,as they invariably replace tried and trusted technology that worked, and was affordable to repair, with gimmicky technology that fails at low mileage, and coss a fortune to repair, there was never a need for dual mass flywheels, harmonic balance pulleys,as in the Jimny, say what you like .but the old cars didn't have the designed in problems that the modern ones have,at least the pulleys were one piece metal ones, and did not have the ridiculously expensive parts that we have today, some cars.the rear light clusters can cost £150!!,well if that's what you call progress, you are welcome to it,give me a Morris Minor anyday......slightly tongue in cheek to be honest, but just making the point. Not all progress is for the better.

£165 on a 7 year old car and you are losing faith? The gearbox is a known issue, and was fixed by Suzuki after a couple of years production so only affects a few cars. If you bought from a trader, they have to offer a warranty regardless of the price.

Most Jimnys will get to 100,000 miles with just a set of kingpin bearings and maybe a sensor.
