My Pinin which is just a bigger Jimny/Vitara homogenous vehicle is less than this.

If it was registered in 04 tho it should surely have an 04 reg, so I don't really know whats happened!

Not at all. I have/had numerous old motors of which many were imports from japan and Ireland which have a year of manufacture but are registered with DVLA later on import. The DVLA attach a plate according to the year of manufacture (often said to be approximate) even though it is declared in this country many years later. Date of first declaration to the tax man is what counts it seems.

Ah that solves that mystery then, sucks for the OP but I don't think the DVLA will budge on the high tax!

Certainly not now that we see it as listed as 2004!!!

Without the cheap car tax the Jimny has nowt of substance going for it apart from subjective desirability. There are other motors of the same/similar insurance group and road fund to choose from before the Jimny.
