Despite what Max Power will tell you, unless you've done lots of engine work the size of exhaust the manufacturer fits is appropriate for the engine. Most 'gains' people perceive are to do with the noise rather than more power.

Hi, I had a quote for the full system with tubular manifolds, cat, and back box all fitted £600 up to 50mm bore not bad.MysticRich wrote: I had a 2" stainless system with a decat pipe on and makes a great amount of difference
Getting a complete new system next month made up as I now need a rear stack and having a 4branch this time so carnt wait to see the gains.
Hi Busta, Apparently on a turbo engine it's only the first two foot that makes the different so surely bigger than standard should make a big different. Nick

Is your Jimny turbocharged?
There is an optimum size where the flow of gas through the exhaust is not restricted. Once you go over this size, you will see no gains. For a standard 80hp 1.3 Jimny this is around 40mm.
The catalytic converter is the most restrictive part of the exhaust, so a de-cat will give you the best returns but may make passing the MOT emissions test tricky/expensive
Design of the exhaust manifold (header) can affect the torque and power of an engine, and a well designed manifold can make a difference over a manufacturers 'log' style cast manifold but these gains are likely to be at the top end. In a 4x4, where low end/mid range is most important you are unlikely to gain much if anything in terms of usable power.
