Not quite low enough i mean, dunno about lack of skill, I'm not a complete beginner...then again I certainly wouldn't say I knew it all. What would your approach be? Tight space, very steep, no room to go back to get more of a run up. I've tried a slower low 1 approach and higher rev more momentum approach. Tried a kind of stabbing approach to fool the diff etc but no joy. Thing is I'm struggling where I've seen landys get up. Might be a lack of skill, but not a complete lack! Thoughts appreciated

You've got it a bit up wrong.

The reason your LR buddies can get up steep hill where you can't is because they have bigger engines with more power and torque which let's them run a higher gear with faster wheel rotation.
So what you need is a bigger engine that lets you run these hills in 3rd, maybe 4th gear. This gives faster wheel rotation, keeping them clean.

If you get lower diff ratio, you wheels will go slower, getting filled with mud really fast, and you're getting nowhere even faster.

It's often a good idea to look at how the comp guys do it. And it's probably only some of the trial guys that wants as low wheel speed as possible.

In addition to what Tom has said - you don't have the weight the LR's have to push the tyre treads into the ground, so yours spin on top of it.

LR's do have some benefits, you just have to take advantage of the benefits that Zukes have over them and show it off when the situation arises!

Ahhh got you, ta, your right I did have the wrong idea. I saw you replied to my post on engines, you did say worth getting a v6 but what do you reckon to 1.6 enough? or worth hanging on to go bigger? I know it depends what you do with it, at the mo mostly pay and play sites but looking to do some trials at some point.

Cheers
