Something a bit thicker that pressed against the swivel ball would potentially last longer, but of course it would wear down to the point where its no better than the current seal. So yes, it would "Delay the signs of ageing (TM)", but it could never seal it forever.

The problem I have is when jet washing underneath. I try to avoid directly hitting the swivels, but its easier said than done, so no doubt water has been force fed into them over time :(
