plus befor you say anything im a coded welder in all welding techniques and have been for 15 years now! o and iv seen your welding on ya bumper nice not lol lol lol lol lolJerseyJimny wrote: Unless you have been trained in the use of MIGs i wouldn't recommend a MIG
Its very easy to think you have a nice strong weld to only fall apart under load
Stick (Or MMA) welding is alot easier to create a strong weld and as long as the weld hasnt got massive chunks of slag in it you know you have a strong weld
MIG is too deceptive especially when your doing structural work like roll
Wow, what a helpful answer.
With all you certificates, codes and what not, Could you not enlighten us a bit. Tell us what is shit and what is not. As there are very different opinions in this thread.
Otherwise, your answer is just as much shit as all other answers in this thread

Cast your mind back to when you started welding.... Which process did you start with?
Also i am guessing you had a experienced welder to teach you the basics of how to set up a MIG Plant?
A complete beginner isnt going to know what to look out for in a MIG plant with out some sort of guidance?
Even with a TWI Qualified tutor a few of use struggled to set the plant up for a while until we got the hang of it so whats the chance of a beginner picking up a MIG and knowing if they are doing it right or not?
Once you get the hang of it with a tutor there to steer you in the right direction then MIG is brilliant for big structural projects

I wasnt happy with it TBH BUT its not like it needed to be 100% perfect as its only holding a bit of tube onto the car...
BUT if i was say.... Welding a roll cage where possible life and death was in balance i would of sticked it all as i know i can do that.......

totally agree and with practice anything is achievable

think the bottom line is
if your not confident /sure of your welding then get some guidance

I do know what i am talking about as i am payed to know what i am talking about...
This is why i am giving advice i don't see you doing the same. with your 15 years of being coded i thought you would of had a few Tips for everyone?
I can happily give you the contact details of my tutor so you can also tell him that he dose not know what he is talking about
Other then that i am sorry that you are not happy with my advice... No one is forcing you to take it
