Isn't it time we had a page relating to Jimny design faults,i dont mean things that have gone wrong through our own modifications, but things that Suzuki should have got right in the first place.Quite a few things are popping up ie weak gear-boxes,seals that dont keep the front axle waterproof, props that let oil out of the gear box
,Cam/Crank sensors that overheat and fail etc.As Helijohn says he is thinking of a Skoda Yeti.If i had known about not going into water no way would i have bought a Jimny. These are problems that Suzuki seen to ignore.I myself have had Brake discs renewed at 29000m and although it was done under warranty i dont think that this is acceptable,i had a VW that did 130000m on the original discs. The new Boeing Dreamliners faults arn't been ignored by Boeing so why should Suzuki say they cant do anything as the car is out of warranty,if its not designed correct in the first place its Suzuki's problem. One owner complaining might not get anywhere but a whole club might.

Do you think a Yeti would be more reliable than a Jimny then? I doubt that.
29,000 miles on a set of brake disks sounds reasonable. It's not as if they are an expensive part to replace either.

Brake disc wear is related to brake use i guess if you do loads of motorway milage then yes wear would be less than stop start all the time.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

29,000 miles? The discs on our Nissan Note were shot at 15,000. The replacement ones have done 11,000 and they are on their way out, looking like a ploughed field.
In The Olden Days, when pads were made from grippy soft asbestos, and front suspension was better designed so that the steering wheel didn't oscillate from lock to lock if there is a waterstain on one of the discs we never ever changed discs, just hammered the big lumps of rust off the rim.
At least the cars nowadays don't rust as fast, in my day you bought an MOT failed rustbucket at around 8-10 years old, put new sills on and flitch panels, and you might get 3 more years out of it. There were shops everywhere selling pattern wings sills and flitch panels. Any mechanical parts came from the scrapyard, which was full to bursting with the same model car, all MOT failed on rust.
My father had a MKII jag, did 270,000 miles in it from one end of the country to the other, mostly proper motorway stuff at 100+, but it was like Trigger's broom, 2 engines, 2 gearboxes, few clutches, 2 back axles, loads of welding.
They were so poorly designed that to change the gearbox you had to jigsaw the floor out around the transmission tunnel and then self-tapper it back! The back axle was 1/4 elliptic springs & panhard rod, it moved back and rubbed through the diff housing, dumped the oil and seized solid. You also had to drive it like Clarkson, with the tail hanging out: if ever you lift off in a corner they just go straight off the road (usually over a cliff and burst into flames in mid air)
And everyone says cars were better in The Olden Days- they weren't.
