Over heating please HELP! was created by Buckyohare27
First of all, Hello to all you Jimny people. I've been reading posts on here for about a year since I got my Jimny but I just joined today.
I've got a 1999 Jimny, dark green with Insa Turbo rangers, front seats out of a new Jimny, and no other mods.
I had to leave my Jimny parked up for 3 whole months and I drove it again today. It started straight away :)
However, after about ten minutes of driving the temp gauge was right up. I stopped and popped the bonnet. The coolant expansion bottle was making a noise and jolting! Not good. And the level in the bottle was really high, not half like usual. Also, the blowers were not blowing any hot air through. Does this sound like a broken water pump or something else?
Also, while the engine was warming up, I sprayed lots of G5 or G50 or something like WD40 under the bonnet all around the engine bay. Could this have caused belt slippage to such an extent that the water pump would stop working??
Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks

Is it frozen? (You don't say where you are)

I remember having to take the radiator out of a car in The Olden Days and thaw it in the bath B)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Im in Derbyshire and no it's not cold enough to be a frozen radiator.

When you say thermostat do you mean the little gauge on the dash? If so, then no it's not stuck. It starts out at C when I start the car then creeps up as it warms up.

Thanks for the replies.

The spray I used was GT85 a PTFE. Im hoping this has caused belt slippage and stopped the pump from working and that its nothing major.

Thanks Reaper, I just checked and its the belt that goes from the alt to the fan...is that the fan belt? It's snapped. Is that what happened on yours? Could I have caused damage by driving it like that? Is it a big job to fix it?
