What would be the recommended "minimum breaking strength" of a snatch strap / kinetic rope (KERR - kinetic energy recovery rope) which would be used to recover a Jimny stuck in snow or mud?
I read that the "MBS" parameter of a kinetic rope should be at least 2-3 times of a stuck vehicle's gross weight.
Anything lower than that factor is not recommended because of the risk of breaking the strap / rope under load.
However, on the other hand, having a too strong snatch strap / kinetic rope is almost as bad has having a too weak one.
If a too strong rope is used for a certain vehicle (for example, a snatch strap with MBS = 16 tons with a small Jmny), it will not stretch because there is not so much weight on it, and it will act almost like a non-elastic tow rope, jerking and damaging the small vehicle.
Therefore, which MBS parameter is ideal on a snatch strap / kinetic rope for Jimnys? I see some rated at approx 5,3T MBS, and other rated at approx 8T MBS.
Would these 5T ones be just enough? Would these 8T ones be too strong?
My recovery/tow straps are 5 tonne, fine for up to Landrover size vehicles.
I wont use Kinetic type ones, seen too much damage done with them by people
getting too over enthusiastic with them.
