"Green Lanes" or more properly BOATS, are part of the public highway, you have to be taxed, MOt'd, licenced and insured to drive them. Therefore all cars with standard road insurance have "Green Lane" insurance as standard. Your Merc has "Green Lane" cover, the Tesco Articulated lorry has Green Lane cover and the Milk Float has Green Lane cover. Its just a marketing ploy to sell insurance to 4x4 owners. Image if it said the truth..."You are covered as standard on the Public Highway and for £5 extra we will cover you on the Public Highway", thats what its saying.

In the end I went with HIC and saved in the region of £150 with slightly better cover..I liked the fact that when i said it was a 4x4, and would be modded for use off road, there was no sucking of teeth ect as with some company's..
